Day 310 - Derek Jarman

Derek Jarman was an internationally celebrated artist, writer, film maker, set designer and gay/HIV activist who had a home in a Fishermans hut at Dungeness.

Sadly, he died of Aids related complications in 1994.

Day 304 - Charivari 2014

For those of you who don't know of it, Charivari is a Carnival type festival and parade organised annually by Strange Cargo (just one of the many educational and community projects they do)  involving most of all the local schools in the artwork and procession (they rely on donations for roughly 50% of their funding, so donate here or pop a few £'s in their donation box next time you are in George's House Gallery).

This years theme was 'Up on the Downs' and celebrated Folkestone's unique position inbetween the South Downs and the sea with themes of wildlife, rare local flora & fauna, local archaeology (vikings etc), fossils, sea creatures and many other features of the local landscape.

Up on the Downs is a local partnership scheme to conserve and celebrate the landscape and heritage of the Dover/Folkestone area. Their website is here.

Here's some images of this years parade:
